I am passionate, active, and complex.

I am passionate about my activities which include mountain biking, snowboarding, sailing and reading. I am complex because I have dual parts to my complex personality, as you can see by the flags representing my ancestry (British and German), my soft and tough sides, and my quiet and active sides. I love the thrill of mountain biking and snowboarding at the same time I love reading, and playing with dogs. I also love the outdoors, especially sailing across the ocean during summers and zooming through forests during winters while relaxing indoors and reading all year.
I used the bold colors of the flags for the background of my work of art while it shows my family's background. I also intentionally put objects beyond the edges of the paper to show my risk taking side where I go beyond limits.

  1. I really liked how you split your drawing in half with flags. It showed to different sides of you separating different seasons activities and overall things that are important to you. Really great job!

  2. I like how the majority of the background is flags, they look very cool together with the snow coming down. It was cool that you used the dog to show your personality, both tough and soft. The way you made the bike a large portion of the picture but made it fade with the background also looked really good. The other touch I really liked was the way you put in the Vineyard Vines whale in the water. It didn't pop out or anything but it was fun to notice

  3. I also really enjoyed how on each side you split the different seasons up and you showed us what activities you do in each. The dark colors in the flags made each picture stand out more and also gave me a better sense of where you come from and that you care about your background.

  4. I liked how your whole project showed not just one but many aspects of your personality. The way you put both of the flags of the places that you are from in the background both equal sized to each other gave the piece a nice sense of symmetry. I also really liked the snow, and how it started out being paper and then as you got lower and closer to the pictures and drawings of important things to you it faded away so it was no longer the main focus. It looked really cool. I also liked how the puppies and part of the the tree were off the paper, it was kind of showing that you think outside the box in a way.

  5. Ben--
I really like your creative representation of all the things that are most important to you. Your portrait was sort of a story with all the activities that you like to do making it up. There was a sense of unity throughout your piece even though it was split down the middle that really provided balance to the portrait. I really liked your tree because it looked very accurate to be in a snowy meadow.

I loved how yours was very informational. I felt that i learned alot from your piece about you. I did not know that you liked to sail or to snowboard. I also loved how your background was the flags from where you are from. I think that your piece was very creative and well done!

  9. Ben I loved your project! The way you used the two flags as a backdrop was an interesting metaphor for your nationality only being the backdrop to your personality. You really got a sense of who you are and there was a lot of information about your interests and values. Although the picture was divieded the snow brought the whole thing together and the tracing paper bike was really good

I also like how you emphasized the flags and put the whole punches on them. i also really enjoyed the details in the water the little things you put is what made the picture way more interesting. Lastly i really enjoyed how you should the things you like to do and the places you put them is what made it really cool

  12. I really liked your picture because it was an untraditional self portrait yet it revealed a lot about you and your story.I really like your choice in color because it helped distinguish different parts of your story. Your picture was somewhat of a collage and by using different colors that pop you allowed us to see all the parts of your portrait. I also like your choice in organization because you formed a sense of balance by putting things you do in the summer on one side and things you do in the winter on the other side.I also liked how you used proportion to indicate how important your culture is to you.

  13. I really enjoyed the snow in your portrait. I loved how you used extra paper form a hole punch and used it so creatively in your piece. I also love that the bike is on tracing paper and you could see the background through it.
